Description
  • Thanks Earl Fortescue for his appointment as Commander of the Tavistock Volunteers. Asks that the volunteers should be given the name of "the Tavistock (or Duke of York's) Royal Fuzileer Regiment". Earl Fortescue replies that he does not have the power to do this and that if such a distinction was granted it " would be likely to give umbrage to other corps".
